The Department of Health and Social Care sets the overall strategy, funds and oversight of the health and social care system.  It is responsible for developing sustainable and ethical policies for the NHS’s international workforce and publishes the Code of Practice for the international recruitment of health and social care personnel.  It also oversees the £15m Official Development Assistance-funded Global Health Workforce Programme to support health workforce development in Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria. The 2022-2025 programme funds both the World Health Organisation to deliver strategic planning and capacity-building, and the Tropical Health Education Trust to coordinate health partnerships between these countries and the UK, working towards greater health equality and universal health coverage.

The Fleming Fund brings evidence and people together to encourage action against drug resistance for a healthier world.

Healthcare UK is a joint initiative between the Department of Health and Social Care, the Department for International Trade, and NHS England.
